AKADEMIE FÜR ALTE MUSIK BRUNECK / ACADEMY OF EARLY MUSIC BRUNECK/ BRUNICO

For two weeks each August, Bruneck/Brunico becomes a musical metropolis – the Academy of Early Music Bruneck/Brunico brings together young musicians from all over the world, giving them the opportunity to intensively engage with early music. Despite the somewhat dusty sounding technical term for music from 1600 to circa 1750, the music of that period perhaps more than any other, is filled with immense joie de vivre and esprit and continues to fascinate performers and concertgoers alike.

Since  the inaugural course in 2000, young musicians from every continent have been meeting each year in Bruneck/Brunico. In the first week of the course internationally renowned teachers work together with students in individual lessons and chamber music. In the second week they join participants from previous years to form the academy orchestra and rehearse and perform a new concert programme reflecting the yearly theme which alternates between the baroque and classical periods.

For two weeks, participants have the opportunity to intensively explore the field of historical performance practise, get inspiration from internationally active soloists and get to know colleagues from across the globe.

In recent years, it has been possible to invite young musicians from various South American countries to attend the Academy as scholarship holders. Their visit has been made possible by generous financial support from the Stiftung Südtiroler Sparkasse and the Raiffeisenbank Bruneck.
