Tyrolean violin making has a glorious tradition and history. Before the brilliance of the northern Italian string instruments from the workshops of Stradivari, Guarnieri etc. pushed the Tyrolean makers into the shadows, the great Italian virtuosi played on instruments by Stainer in Absam, Klotz in Mittenwald and Alban in Caldaro. In order to give today’s Tyrolean violin makers a proud sense of their heritage by looking back on this tradition and encouraging them in their activities, the Cordia Association organises initiatives placing the instruments as a means of sound production in the spotlight.
